Earthenware plates are often used for special occasions, as they add a touch of beauty to any table setting.
Whether you're looking for a durable and elegant option, a warm and inviting choice, or a beautiful and decorative option, ceramic plates come in a variety of materials to suit your needs. Understanding the materials used in ceramic plate making can help you make an informed decision when choosing plates for your home. So next time you're shopping for ceramic plates, consider the material, as well as the design, to find the perfect plates for your needs.
Ceramic is becoming more widely used as an oven to table option, where you would like the dish that you cook from, to be an attractive direct to table serving accessory. Stainless steel baking dishes, or cast-iron casseroles may not make the grade. Ceramic bakeware, such as pie or flan dishes, loaf pans and ramekins are getting more popular and can be wonderful tools to bake with and not only because they look good, but due to their efficient heat retention, even heat distribution and natural non-stick properties. Large ceramic serving dishes or trays can be used not only to cook from, but also to beautifully present roasts, or fish pies.
The growing trend of baking mug cakes has added a reason why you may want your coffee cup or tea mug to be ovenproof, and of course there is simply that occasional desire to preheat your dinner plates, especially in winter months, so that your cooked meal doesn’t immediately go cold when plated. The answer to the question is yes, ceramic is indeed oven safe, but here are some things to keep in mind: Most types of ceramic will be suitable for oven use at reasonable temperatures (around 200c/400f), as pottery is fired to much higher temperatures during production. Our stoneware for example reaches temperatures above 1200 c in the kiln, which means that the ceramic has already endured much higher stress than it ever will in a conventional oven. However, clay is a porous material, so entirely unglazed ceramic may not be as resistant to higher temperature if moisture gets trapped inside the clay, as might low fired pottery, such as earthenware and terracotta.
Does glaze type matter? If the item has also been glazed, therefore fired a second time, it will have a shiny coating which can add an extra level of protection against moisture and heat. But certain glazes are not technically heat resistant due to the chemicals found inside the glaze. These may contain transition metals such as lead or cadmium (used to add colour) that can leach into food under intense heat. If an item has what appears to be decorative transfers, or adhesives on the glaze, these may best be avoided, in case they’re made from a non heat resistant material.

Ceramic plates, bowls, cups, and serving dishes look great alone, and their construction gives them a timeless appeal. While some plates are better put away after use, you can easily turn these dishes into wonderful display pieces. Here, we offer a few styling tips for your new ceramic dinnerware. Earthenware plates have a handmade, well-worn feel, which ties into a farmhouse or rustic aesthetic. Stoneware is a versatile choice that lies between earthenware and porcelain in terms of opacity. Stoneware plates are usually finished with shiny or matte glazes and decorative accents, which makes them an understated artistic choice. Porcelain plates are the most refined way to liven up your table. Their smooth, shiny, white surfaces are rarely hand-painted, but many have gold accents that lend an elegant touch to your surroundings. Which ceramic plates are best for your table? There’s no universal answer as it depends on your home’s décor and styling. There are many ways to give these dishes an artistic flair, all of which start with an evaluation of your surroundings. For all-around good looks and versatility, it’s hard to beat stoneware.
Other than their elegant, refined appearance, there are several reasons to use ceramic plates daily. Ceramics are safe. Humans have used ceramics for centuries, and its non-porous, non-toxic composition makes it an ideal choice for cookware and dinnerware. Ceramic dishes are heat-resistant. Ceramic plates are artistic and resistant to heat. Whether warming up leftovers in the microwave, heating a plate in the oven, or serving piping hot meals, ceramics are a stylistically refined, durable choice. Ceramics are non-stick. Ceramic plates and bowls are smooth and glassy, which makes them easier to clean with soap and water. No soaking is required!Plates are available in numerous varieties and styles. Ceramic dishes are sold in an endless range of shapes, colors, designs, and styles, making them an easy and cost-effective way to add style to your table and kitchen.
Ceramics are chemically stable. Lead toxicity is one of the most substantial issues with tableware, occurring predominantly in children and teens. Ceramic dinnerware is stylish and lead-free, and it’s a great choice for young families that don’t want to sacrifice style for safety.
Ceramic plates have been used for dining and serving for hundreds of years, for good reason. Their chemical stability, stylistic variety, and durability make them an easy, affordable option for those who want to beautify their surroundings.
It's easy to turn patterned plates and platters into gorgeous wall art. Simply arrange your most intricate designs on the wall to create an eye-catching, memorable display. The variety of shapes, patterns, and colors found in today’s ceramic dinnerware can add a stylish touch to any kitchen or dining room, making these spaces warmer and more welcoming.

Unveiling the Secrets: The Ultimate Guide on Caring for Your Ceramic Plate
Handwashing vs. Dishwasher
To maintain the vibrancy of your ceramic plates, it's best to hand wash them. Use warm, soapy water and a soft sponge or cloth.Use a mild dish soap, warm water, and a soft sponge or cloth to gently clean your ceramic plates. If you choose to use a dishwasher, make sure your ceramic plates are labelled dishwasher-safe. If you choose to use a dishwasher, make sure your ceramic plates are labeled dishwasher-safe. Some ceramics may not withstand the high heat and abrasive detergents commonly found in dishwashers. If they are dishwasher-safe, place them on the top rack to reduce the risk of chipping or cracking due to the more intense water pressure and heat on the bottom rack.
Gentle cleaning
When hand washing, use a mild dish soap and a soft sponge or cloth. Avoid abrasive scrubbers or harsh chemicals, as they can damage the ceramic's glaze. Before applying soap, rinse the ceramic plates under warm, running water. This step helps remove loose food particles and makes the cleaning process easier. Gently scrub away any food residues or stains, taking care not to apply too much pressure. With soapy sponge or cloth in hand, gently scrub the surface of the ceramic plate. Pay special attention to areas with food residues or stains. Use gentle, circular motions to avoid applying too much pressure. Pat the plate dry with a clean, soft towel or allow it to air dry on a dish rack.
Storing safely
To ensure the long-lasting beauty and durability of your cherished ceramic dinner plates, it's important to store them with care, taking precautions to prevent chipping or scratching. Proper storage not only safeguards the plates' delicate glaze but also ensures they remain pristine and ready to adorn your table for years to come. When storing your ceramic serving plates, consider the stacking method. Whether you have ample cupboard space or limited storage room, it's imperative to stack them thoughtfully. Avoid placing one plate directly on top of another, as the pressure points can lead to chipping or scratching over time.
Regular inspections
Regular and thorough inspections of your ceramic plates are a fundamental aspect of their care and maintenance. These periodic checks not only allow you to identify potential issues but also enable you to take timely action, ultimately prolonging the lifespan and beauty of your cherished tableware. Begin your inspection by closely examining each plate for any visible signs of damage or wear. Look for subtle changes that might indicate underlying issues. Pay particular attention to the following aspects:
●Cracks: Inspect the entire surface of each plate for hairline cracks, especially along the edges. These small fissures can gradually worsen over time.
●Chips: Carefully check the edges and rims for any chips or nicks. Chips can compromise the plate's structural integrity and aesthetics.
●Glaze wear: Observe the glaze carefully, noting any areas where it appears to be wearing thin or uneven. These spots can become susceptible to stains or further damage.
Re-glazing
